Spring is Sprung!

We were invited to dinner at our Iranian next-door neighbours' last night, to celebrate Nowrooz, the Iranian New Year. This always takes place at the Spring Equinox, and the actual time of the transition from winter to spring is precisely calculated. Last night it was 10.20 pm, UAE time.

We had a great time, although eating dinner at something approaching midnight was a bit of a challenge. And once again, I was struck by this: every Iranian I have ever met has been clever, cultured and charming. So how come they let their country be run by Ayatollahs and Ahmedinejad?

Maybe the good ones got out because they were outnumbered?

And now they're doing their best in other countries to ensure that the whole world doesn't judge them on their leaders.

Much like the rest of us, really! lol.

Some nationalities are susceptible to being governed by complete imbeciles. Russians spring to mind as the best example.

NZM: Yeah, probably. Like all the Americans I've met here, they are not representative of the proles back home, the vast majority of whom do not even own a passport!

I agree with NZM and Keefieboy- Americans outside of america are very different from americans in america, although iv seen some exception there as well.

Bad people run countries because they are willing to do deplorable things that the good people are not. See also; Zimbabwe, North Korea

Most Merkins don't own a passport b/c they are several days drive from a country that would require one for them to enter. Flying is also prohibitively expensive and aggrivating so why not stay local?

(I don't adhere to, or agree with this mindset but I do understand it.)
