Rainbow Sheep?

Political Correctness continues its insane progress in the UK, according to the BBC. Kids Twildren in nursery schools in Oxfordshire are no longer allowed to sing about baa baa 'black' sheep. Because, well, you know why. So the invented alternative is 'rainbow' sheep. For fux sake. What planet are these people from? Why can't we just take them out and kill them? Hmm? Hmm?

Mad, mad, mad. And no doubt 'not in my name Tony' will support them to the hilt.

Absolutely Fucking Ridiculous.

Almost as laughably stupid as someone’s recent effort to get the terms ‘master’ and ‘slave’ removed from use in computers, as in, no more ‘master’/’slave’ hard-disk. Fucking ridiculous.

So from now on, all generations of children will think that sheep are gay?

I guess that it's better than calling them by their colour!

:-)

Does anyone actually think discrimination comes from singing about a black sheep? If so, seek help immediately.

But surely "sheep" may upset impresionable youngsters whose personalities have not developed to their full potential? Granted, it's anthropomorphic stereotyping, but we do not live in a perfect world.

And isn't "baa" nothing more than a poorly disguised reference to Scrooge, and therefore Christmas? That may be offensive to non-Christians. And people who don't like Dickens. Or should that be D*ickens?

I think they are putting thoughts in our heads...never ever considered it!

they have done the same thing here in British preschools with "Ring Around the Rosey" or whatever that song is called. Everything is "whitewashed" these days.

I actually had to go & wash the dishes to calm down after reading your post Keef, plus all the replies. I'm thinking "next thing they'll want the word BLACK removed from the English language", followed by brown, tan, coffee coloured, coloured even (because it's brown!) yellow & then white. I simply don't understand the logic of the idiots who come up with these ideas! What pisses on my battery more than anything though is that it's OK to have 'Black' trade unions & organisations, but God forbid someone should have an organisation that ISN'T specifically for non-whites.......they can't, because its deemed racist. Political correctness has gone way way OTT & I tend to think that having done so, the politicians now don't know when to stop.
To quote samuraisam: it is Absolutely Fucking Ridiculous. That sums it up perfectly!

This is not new, I'm afraid. Back in the 80s,looney left Lambeth Council (London) changed black sheep to woolie sheep while my step daughter was in primary school.

We had a "similar" incident in sweden with an ice cream that has been around for ages called Nogger... the name is derived from the ingredient of the ice cream which is Nougat.

So, they came with a new flavoured Nogger recently: liquorice. As we all know, liquorice is black so the new name became Nogger Black.

Well you can guess the rest.

In Australia they have the unforunately titled "Coon" cheese.
I shit you not.

"the name has nothing to do with the more commonly known racial slur use of the word and is instead named after its creater Edward William Coon"

I think it's reasonable to assume that something like 'coon' cheese could offend someone, however it is clearly not intended to be used in an offensive context, as for 'baa baa rainbow sheep', I just find that ridiculous.

Interesting post and discussion, I wonder when they are going to name "black heritage day" or "Black history day" to rainbow heritage day etc. We had a coalition of black students in my college I wonder if they changed the name in the 3 years since i left college.

Its interesting how people behave in general...when they try avoid doing something you think is "wrong" they tend to over shoot..I think thats what happened.

Why? Why? Why?
And why rainbow sheep? Everyone knows that black sheep exist, and the idea of them existing doesn't cause any offense. On the other hand, the idea of a rainbow sheep is disturbing.
It doesn't scan either.
