Advencha

Now that we have a reliable mobile air-conditioned box on wheels, we decided to go on a little adventure. In true Dubai-ite style, our destination was a shop. The new IKEA at Festival City to be precise. I just wanted to get a reading lamp, but of course you are not allowed to go to IKEA and just buy one thing, so we came back with a dozen things - all cheap and vital to our continued existence, naturally.

After that we got lost trying to navigate to the Irish Village. I have to say I was very impressed by the new airport tunnel, and Sharjah is particularly charming at this time of year.

Tomorrow I am going on another adventure - Abu Dhabi, no less. Wish me luck.

I was distraught to find that the City Centre IKEA had closed - it was so much more convenient to get to!

We've had adventures going to Ikea too, or rather trying to find the right way back from it. Strangely we managed to find it relatively easily three times in succession, but I still don't know how to come back without detours to places I've never heard of.

That's about the most disorientating spot in Dubai these days. KB is lucky his route to Abu Dhabi doesn't go through Festival City area; otherwise he may end up telling us about his adventures on the RAK corniche and the glorious Musandam!

Kaya: would've been nice, but I was back in Dubai by 11am, due to the complete lack of traffic in AD!

What time did you leave? LOL! To miss the Dubai traffic and make it home that early is amazing; as far as I’m concerned, no matter what time you left!

Tainted: well I left Umm Suqeim, having dropped off BetterArf, at 7.30. Traffic heading towards Internet City / Jebel Ali can be a bit lumpy at that time, but once you're past it, it's plain sailing all the way to AD - if you can see more than half a dozen vehicles around you, that's congestion! Bliss...

Mabrouk on the new air-conditioned wheels!

Enjoying IKEA I hear... (smiling a pleased smile)

Seriously though, we got a lamp from IKEA yesterday, and it didn't work with the socket we have.

And mind you, we live in sweden... ah well can't get it right all the time.
