Stormy Weather

The view from my apartment five minutes ago (8 a.m.). The sky is almost black, the thunder and lightning and extremely heavy rain have just started. Thankfully I don't have to drive anywhere today. The rain we had a couple of days ago resulted in an incredible 500 accidents in Dubai alone!

Update: the storm lasted 10-15 minutes, during which time our balcony was under two inches of water and threatening to overflow the threshold of the door. The drain on our balcony has never worked, and it was only some frantic bailing by BetterArf and a flowerpot that saved the day.

Some shopkeepers at Ibn Battuta Mall were less fortunate. The whole area around Geant (but not Geant itself) was awash with water. When we went down at 11am there were some very glum-looking shopkeepers surrounded by wet-look stock. And some of the roads around the mall are under about five inches of water.

That was quick, Keefie! Am going to post my pics of the marina if I can do so in between working and packing for Jordan.

My arms always ache when there's a thunderstorm coming, and this morning at 6:30, I got that old familiar feeling.

Brilliant weather - love it!

Wat a beautiful day it is....I woke up at 7:30 n there was no sign of d rain. But as the minutes ticked away the sky just grew dark. N I stood at my balcony window armed with my camera to get the pic of a lightening streak. Gave it up pretty soon.....but Im enjoying the weather and falling in love with this place more and more. Funny isnt it that I started loving this place 18 years ago wen i was born and I still havent grown tired of it. Nywayz, thnx a bunch for that beautiful pic.

I was on the road the short distance from south Dubai Marina to Knowledge Village when the wind hit. Not only light rubbish but also the plywood sheets and road cones were flying about. Plywood sheets complete with posts and six inch nails lying in the road! Too busy taking evasive action to stop & get the camera out...

Now in Amman - and it's better weather here - although cold.

Internet is slow, so posting will also be minimal.

Re-read your Jordan posts before we came, Keefie - the bit on getting visas before immigration came in handy!

Off to Petra tomorrow!
