Squaring the Circle

Why do people talk about the 'four corners of the globe'? I'm prepared to accept, for amusement purposes, that the earth might be flat. But to believe that it is also square or rectangular is pushing it a bit. And if it's flat and square, could it not also be a cube? In which case we'd talk about the 'eight corners of the globe'. Or not.

Answers on a postcard please.

Why do you want answers on a postcard? That's just plain silly.

A map of the globe will typically have four corners!

Perhaps more rhetorical four corners or perhaps due to the four points on a compass? If the circle is square is the triangle a straight line? Pour me another whiskey while I think about it.

The answer is, of course, in the post!

How silly Keefie! The whole "Globe"-thing's just another example of miss-information by THEM! Anyone who's tried to drive round Dubai in rush hour, or Birmingham at any time of day, knows that it's some kind of distorted klien-bottle quite possibly blown by a zen glass-blower on acid! (or may be Dhabi dabbler after a good night in the Rodent's Return!)
